- Prominent features of the mosque
The Yuşa Mosque is located on Joshua‘s Hill in Beykoz and is remembered together with the tomb of the Prophet Joshua. According to a rumor, the location of the tomb of the Prophet Joshua was discovered by Yahya Effendi, the foster brother of Suleiman the Magnificent.
The tomb of the Prophet Joshua, located next to the mosque and tomb, is visited by the public and has great spiritual importance.
There are various inscriptions on the inner gate of the mosque and the tomb regarding the construction and renovation of the mosque.
The inscription from the period when Sultan Abdulaziz rebuilt the mosque tells that the mosque was renovated after the fire and reopened for worship as a “glorious temple”.
The mosque has a square plan and a simple architecture. It has a single-balcony minaret.
Joshua‘s Hill is one of the highest points in Istanbul, and both the mosque and the tomb stand out as important places of visit.
