Smart City Project: DİJİTAL İSTANBUL
The Smart City Project “Dijital İstanbul” by İstanbul Valiliği aims to serve as a digital guide for those who want to explore our cultural heritage. With this project, it becomes possible to access accurate, fast, and clear information about the registered cultural assets in Istanbul, such as their construction year, patron, architect, and prominent features.
The project was initiated by placing QR code technology panels thoroughly in 595 mosques of our city in total, which has over 40 thousand registered cultural assets. In the first phase panels were placed in 200 of the mosques which has the most visitors, and another 395 in the second phase. This technology, which allows access to information both in written and audio formats, works seamlessly with all smart devices. Prepared in five different languages—Turkish, English, German, Russian, and Arabic—“Dijital İstanbul” will soon be applied to all cultural assets, serving as a travel map for local and foreign visitors who want to learn and share historical, cultural, and architectural details.
