- Changes the building has undergone after its construction
The mosque, located right next to the Kasımpaşa Shipyard, was repaired during the reign of Sultan Mahmud II and Sultan’s Lodge was added to the structure during this time.
It was restored once more during the reign of Abdul Hamid II. The mosque is located in a green area between high-rise buildings and the Taşkızak Shipyard.
- Prominent features of the mosque
The mosque, which has a stone structure, has a single minaret and a single balcony.
The mosque was built as a small structure and the Sultan’s Lodge which is added later enriched the structure.
During the repair of the mosque’s fountain, the bullets in the x-ray room of the American hospital ship Solace were used. Solace is notable as the only ship to survive the Pearl Harbor raid. The ship, which was sold to Turkiye after the war, was known as the “Ankara”. It was dismantled in 1980, and the lead coatings in the ship’s x-ray room were used in the mosque’s fountain.
