It was severely damaged by foreign soldiers who came to Istanbul during the Crimean War of 1853-1856, with only its minaret remaining standing while everything else was reduced to ruins
In 1885, Abdulhamid II ordered the reconstruction of the destroyed mosque
It was forced to close its doors in 1935, and the building, which remained within the military zone for many years, fell into disrepair due to neglect and indifference, so much so that it was completely demolished in 1959 on the grounds that it had “lost its status as an ancient monument”
In 2021, Üsküdar Municipality took action to rebuild the mosque
And as a result of the meticulous reconstruction work, the mosque was rebuilt in accordance with its original and opened for worship in 2023.

It was constructed as a masonry building with limestone on a raft foundation
The stones were connected with steel clamps and joined using Khorasan mortar
The basement floor ceiling is made of steel construction, and the ground floor ceiling is made of wooden flooring
And the roof is made of wood and tiles, with the minaret dome covered with lead.
