About the Person:
  • Ahmed İzzet Efendi was born as the son of Emin Efendi, one of the prominent figures of the reign of Mahmud II.
  • He first became affiliated with a Shadhili sheikh in Unkapanı, but upon a dream he had when he was a child, he was connected to the “qutb” (the most prominent sufi sheikh of the time) of his time, Kuşadalı İbrahim Halveti, in the lodge in Sineklibakkal. He became one of his favorite successors.
  • After their lodge was reduced to ashes by a fire, his sheikh told him, “My son, do not be sad; you have burned “masiva” (an Islamic term meaning everything other than God), look to your future,” thus expressing the depth of his spiritual journey.
  • Ahmed İzzet Efendi, one of the “sayyids” descending from the Prophet Muhammad, is the successor of Keçecizade Ali Efendi. After the death of Muhammed Kırımi, he was appointed as the sheikh of Kazasker Hasan Rafet Efendi Lodge and trained many scholars and Sufi masters here.
  • When he passed away, he was washed and buried by the Jerrahi Sheikh Ali Efendi, the Sheikh of Seyyid Nizam Lodge Mahmud Celaleddin Efendi and scholar Tikveşli Yusuf Efendi.
