About the Person:
  • Nevfidan Kadın was one of the consorts of Sultan Mahmud II. She was born in 1793.
  • Although she bore children, none survived infancy. After the death of Zernigar Kadın, the biological mother of Adile Sultan, Nevfidan Kadın raised Adile Sultan as her own.
  • Following the death of Sultan Mahmud II, she went on pilgrimage to Mecca and returned to Istanbul in 1842.
  • Known for her charitable works throughout her life, Nevfidan Kadın passed away in 1855.

Prominent Features:

  • Nevfidan Kadın is buried in the section to the right of the entrance hall of Sultan Mahmud II’s tomb.
  • The tomb has a rectangular plan and is covered with a barrel vault. Its interior is notably simple.
  • The surfaces of the vault are adorned with naturalistic reliefs.
  • Alongside Nevfidan Kadın, the tomb also houses the consorts and children of Sultan Mahmud II and Sultan Abdülaziz.
