Changes After Construction:
  • The school was commissioned by Darüssaade Agha Hafız Behram Agha between 1883 and 1884 on a plot of 1,000 square metres.
  • At the time of its opening, it began its educational life under the name Mekteb-i İbtidâî-i Behramî (Behramiye Primary School) as a coeducational school with 60 girls and boys.
  • After the death of Hafız Behram Agha in 1892, who had no heir, Sultan Abdulhamid II registered the school building and its plot in his own name.
Prominent Features:
  • The school, which took the name Behramağa Primary School in 1997, is the first Turkish school built in Bakırköy.
  • Its massing and plan scale correspond to the “few-classroom, compact school” type seen in the primary schools of the period.
  • Among the teachers of the school was the well-known writer and member of parliament Ahmet Rasim, and the renowned director Nuri Bilge Ceylan is also among its graduates.
