Taksiarhi Greek Orthodox Church
Changes After Construction:
- The structure was rebuilt many times after the earlier church of the 16th century.
- The present building was rebuilt and completed in 1896–1899.
Prominent Features:
- The church belongs to the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Istanbul.
- It is also known as Aya Strati Taksiarhi Greek Orthodox Church.
- The inscription of the structure associates its construction with Muzuros Pasha.
- Its plan follows the closed Greek cross scheme, and a dome is used in the main space.
- There is a bell tower on the western axis.
- To its southwest is the Ayia Paraskevi parekklesion.
- On the exterior facade is the Greek phrase “Deute pros me” (in Turkish, “Bana geliniz”), taken from Matthew 11:28.
- To the south of the naos is the family graveyard of Muzuros Pasha.
