Changes After Construction:
  • The church and monastery buildings were damaged in the 1894 Istanbul earthquake; they were repaired approximately one and a half months after the earthquake.
Prominent Features:
  • The church belongs to the Latin Catholic Church.
  • It is also known as the Saint Pasifico Church and the San Pacifico Latin Catholic Church.
  • It is in the Neo-Gothic style; the interior contains a wooden ceiling and various pictorial and sculptural elements.
  • At the entrance there is an iron gate crowned with a cross; the same symbol is used above the stained-glass windows as on the portal.
  • The building contains a painting associated with Pope John XXIII (Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli); Roncalli’s service in Turkey as papal representative between 1935 and 1944 historically supports this context.
