- The masjid was built in the early 16th century by Cezeri Kasım Pasha; it is seen that this appears in Ottoman archival and inventory records.
- The structure was rebuilt in 1868 during the reign of Sultan Abdülaziz with masonry material and largely acquired its present form in this period; this repair was carried out after it had been damaged by fire and environmental factors.
- In the mid-20th century, some parts of the structure were damaged; in 1957, the existing building was eliminated through urban interventions.
- On the plot, which remained empty for a long time, restructuring works were later carried out with the contributions of institutions such as the Türkiye Diyanet Foundation, and the present structure was opened for worship in 1989.
Prominent Features:
- Cezeri Kasım Pasha Mosque is one of the important examples among the Bab-ı Ali-type neighborhood structures of Fatih, dated to the early 16th century.
- The Alemdar neighborhood area where the masjid is located is historically in a position related to the intramural trade and administrative axes; this is an important clue for understanding the selected settlement fabric of the structure.
- The masonry structure of the building, rebuilt in the 19th century after repair, and the architectural data formed over time reflect the typical Ottoman mosque construction tradition of the period.
- Even though the mosque underwent different functional changes over the years, it maintained its historical continuity as an active place of worship in its surroundings.
- The reopening works in 1989 are one of the examples in Istanbul of 20th-century restoration practice in terms of restoring the mosque to worship.
