Changes After Construction
It is thought, though not certain, that the building was constructed by Mustafa Ağa, the chief architect of the Imperial Architects’ Corps of the period.
In 1877, when it was in a ruined state, it was revived by a benefactor.
It underwent a comprehensive repair in 1965.
It was restored in 2015.
Featured Highlights
The courtyard of the mosque is reached from the street by descending a twelve-step stone staircase, and the door of the school is located on the left side of the courtyard.
Its patron, Müderris Abdülbaki Efendi, the son of Tiryaki Hasan Pasha and son-in-law of Aziz Hüdayi, who served as molla of İzmir and Aleppo, is buried in front of the mihrab.
Next to the mosque stands a primary school thought to have been built in 1644, again by Abdülbaki Efendi, and known by the same name.
This mosque, with a single minaret and a single balcony, has a cemetery containing 15–16 graves.
Its mihrab is made of marble, and its pulpit is wooden.
