- Changes the building has undergone since its construction
The mosque was severely damaged in the Cihangir fire on March 1, 1823, and was subsequently rebuilt in a completely new form by Sultan Mahmud II in 1823-24.
- Prominent features of the mosque
The mosque, which has an elevated structure, is a Tanzimat period style building with shops underneath and stairs on both sides. It was built in a chamfered shape at the corner where two roads meet.
There are two main entrances. The inner staircase with an inscription above the door provides connection to the narthex; the other outer staircase is adjacent to the side facade where the minaret is located.
The rectangular planned Harim area is divided into three courtyards with wooden piers and the mihrab is designed as a semicircular projection. The mosque receives daylight from round arched windows.
