- Changes the building has undergone since its construction
  • It suffered great damage from disasters such as the fire of 1587, the earthquake of 1648, the fires of 1633-1634 and 1652. Its central dome and minaret collapsed.
  • It was repaired after the 1894 earthquake; it was repaired again in 1937-1938, 1956 and the 1980s.
  • In the 19th century, the end of the madrasah facing the street and some of its cells were demolished.
- Prominent features of the mosque
  • The main space, consisting of a narthex with a five-domed portico, a large main dome and a semi-dome, is enriched with rectangular projections and muqarnas pendentives towards the mihrab.
  • The body of the minaret with its balcony is decorated with stalactite projections. Its calligraphy was written by Sami Effendi during the 1896 restoration.
  • A caravanserai, a madrasah, a primary school, a shrine, a soup kitchen and a dervish lodge are also part of the complex, but most of them have been ruined over time.
  • There are graves of Ottoman statesmen in the cemetery. A Baroque style fountain built by Hekimoğlu Ali Pasha is adjacent to the mosque wall.
