  • At the time the mosque was built, Merdivenköy was a small village with a predominantlyBektashi population, the main core of which was the “Şah Kulu Sultan Tekke” and the20-30 households around it. After the construction of the mosque, the religious identity ofthe region, which was already prominent, was further strengthened, and the villagebecame one of the most important religious centers on the Anatolian side, with itsmosque, tekke, dervishes and shrines. Thereupon, the name of the village was changedto ;Merd-i iman köy (the village of those whose faith is not doubted, who truly believe),and over time this name first became Merdimanköy among the people, and then “Merdivenköy”.
