It was converted into a mosque by Grand Vizier Ali Pasha in 1732 by adding a minbar to the mosque
The mosque, which fell into disrepair over time, was rebuilt by Sultan Mahmud I in 1753; it was later damaged in the 1894 earthquake and repaired in 1898 during Galip Pasha’s Ministry of Evkaf (the ministry dealing with foundations at the time)
And it underwent a comprehensive repair in 1992.

It is considered the first place of worship built in Üsküdar
It is claimed that it was built in the name of Akşemseddin
The mosque has a square plan and is made of cut stone and brick. Although it looks like a mosque, it is not, and there is no narthex
It has a small entrance with a staircase leading to the women’s gallery
Its interior decorations reflect the late Ottoman decorative style
Its minbar is wooden and its mihrab is built into the wall. The verse “Whenever Zachariah visited her in the sanctuary…” (Surah Al Imran, 37) is written on its mihrab
It has a single minaret and a single balcony
It is also known as the “Fatih Sultan Mehmet Mosque”
Next to the mosque is the Akşemseddin Fountain
It is reported that the construction of the mosque started as a wooden masjid during the conquest of Istanbul and that the first sermon was read here after the conquest
There is no Musalla stone or cemetery
And it gave its name to Salacak Neighborhood, the first neighborhood established in Üsküdar.
