It was opened for worship in 1949 before it was completed.
In 1950, the construction was completely completed and the official opening was held.

It was built in the Neoclassical Ottoman architectural style of the Second National Architecture Movement.
The mosque, covered with a reinforced concrete main dome and three semi-domes, attracts attention with its stone walls; it has a single minaret adjacent to the entrance facade.
The narthex with five domed porticoes is supported by six marble columns.
The calligraphy decorations belong to Hamit Aytaç, Macid Ayral and Mustafa Halim Özyazıcı. The windows are stained glass and decorated with green breccia.
It contains a library, a gasilhane (special washing place for the deceased, toilets and rooms for the staff. Its marble mihrab and minbar are in the classical Ottoman style.
