Changes after its construction
The mosque land was purchased by the Turkish Monuments Association in 1959.
During construction, the old cemetery located on the sloped land was removed.
The mosque, which initially had two minarets and two balconies, was dismantled overtime because the minaret stones deteriorated, and because of reinforcement works, thenumber of balconies on the minarets was reduced to one.
Prominent features
The mosque, also known as “Kuşdili Mosque”, was built in the Seljuk and Ottomanarchitectural styles.
The dome supports are square-shaped, and the top of the side enclosures aresupported by bow-shaped arches.
Four small domes are placed at the corners.
The minbar, the preacher’s pulpit and the Sultan’s Lodge are made of marble.
The interior is tiled.
