- Changes After Its Construction
- In 1871, during the horse-drawn tramway works, the fountain was removed and part of the tomb and the cemetery were destroyed due to the road works.
- Various repairs were made to the mosque and social complex in 1917, 1958, 1983 and 1988.
- In the 1920s, due to the construction of the 5th Vakıf Han in Eminönü, the fountain belonging to the Abdulhamid I Complex was added in front of the mosque, near Gülhane.
- In 1950, Zeynep Sultan’s body was removed from her tomb and transferred to its current location.
- In 2014, the mosque was temporarily closed due to restoration work initiated by the Special Provincial Administration.
- Prominent Features
- The square-plan, single-domed building from the Baroque period was built using an alternating masonry technique using a mixture of stone and brick.
- The main dome is supported by four walls. There are 16 round arched windows on the drum of the dome. The lower floor windows are rectangular, the upper floor windows have pointed arches and there is a circular window above them.
- It is surrounded by a dome and five arches on six porphyry columns. The other openings between the columns are covered with vaults.
- The mihrab is made of red marble, the minbar is made of wood and decorated with Baroque ornaments. The interior is decorated with hand-drawn works.
- The minaret located in the western corner has a single balcony and was built using cut stone and brick.
- The square-plan classroom adjacent to the western entrance of the complex was renovated in the 1980s.
- In place of the fountain that was demolished in 1871, there is a fountain belonging to Abdulhamid I, which was brought from Eminönü and placed in Gülhane in the 1920s.
- In addition to the graves of important people such as Zeynep Sultan, Grand Vizier Melek Mehmed Pasha and Alemdar Mustafa Pasha, there are a total of 113 graves in the cemetery, including the graves of palace officials and relatives of Zeynep Sultan.
