Changes After Construction:
  • The bell tower dates to 1895.
  • The church underwent repairs in 1956 and 1985.
Prominent Features:
  • The church belongs to the Armenian Catholic Patriarchate of Turkey.
  • It is the only Armenian Catholic church in the Princes’ Islands.
  • The consecration and opening date of the church is August 15, 1858, and this date was aligned with the Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
  • In the worship hall, whose arched ceiling is supported by columns, there is a marble plaque preserving the memory of Andon Ağa Apelyan; in accordance with his will, Apelyan was buried inside the church.
  • There is a circular rose window above the entrance door; on the side of the entrance opening toward the worship space, there are a choir balcony and an organ.
  • The interior receives daylight from three large windows on each of the two walls.
