Aya Yorgi Greek Orthodox Church
Changes After Construction:
- The structure was repaired in 1726.
- Under the decree dated 1730, it entered a process of repair and reconstruction.
- It was rebuilt from the foundations on 13 September 1836.
- It underwent repairs in 1991.
- It was taken into restoration by the General Directorate of Foundations and was revived again.
Prominent Features:
- The church belongs to the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Istanbul.
- The structure is also known as Ayios Yeoryios Church and Hızır İlyas Church.
- The origin of the church goes back to the Eastern Roman period; its existence is known with certainty after the 9th century.
- The structure was moved from its former location to its present site during the construction of the Mihrimah Sultan Complex.
