Person in the Tomb

Ali Rıza Efendi passed away at the young age of 15. In his epitaph, it is stated that his lineage goes back to Caliph Abu Bakr with the words "His ancestors go back to al-Siddiq (The Truthful, honorary title given by the Prophet Muhammad to Abu Bakr) / There is a special honour for his lineage."

According to legend, he has marks on his feet indicating that he is a descendant of Abu Bakr. His father is said to be from the Kazan Turks.

Although there is no detailed information about his identity, he is remembered as a young man of high lineage and spiritual value.

Featured Highlights

  • The tomb is built of stacked stone and has a wooden roof.

  • There is a classical Ottoman style window on the back and right sides.

  • There is a main entrance with marble sills and iron doors.

  • There is a single wooden chest in the tomb.

  • There is a long inscription written in the form of a poem, on which is included Kelime-i Tevhid (“The Word of Oneness”, meaning “There is no god but Allah and Muhammad is His Messenger”)

  • Although the author of the inscription is unknown, it is recorded that the poet Refet Efendi wrote the repair inscription.

  • It was extensively restored in 1891 by Ahmet Fuad Bey (son of Grand Vizier Hüseyin Avni Paşa)

  • The repair inscription on the door includes the following information: “From the lineage of al-Siddiq, the tomb of Mir Riza / He made repairs without any cost, and made his honorable soul happy.”

  • The tomb was restored in 1994.
