- Prominent features of the mosque
Anadolu Hisar Fatih Sultan Mosque was built by Mehmed the Conqueror during the restoration process of the historical Anadoluhisarı (Anatolian Fortress) located on the Anatolian side of the Bosphorus. The mosque bears the traces of the early Ottoman architecture.
The mosque was built with a single minaret and a single balcony. The cut stone minaret located on the northwest corner draws attention with its balcony with hexagonal geometric interlaced railings and its structure supported by thick consoles.
There is an inscription dated 1885 written by Tarihnüvis Muhtar Effendi on the base of the minaret. This inscription refers to the rebuilding of the mosque during the reign of Sultan Abdul Hamid II.
The fountain in the mosque’s garden was built in 1987 and completes the aesthetic and functional elements of the mosque.
