People in the Tomb
Asude Hatun was the wet nurse of the Ottoman Sultan Bayezid II and had an important position in the palace circles. Although detailed information about her life is limited, she was a respected figure both in her time and in the centuries that followed because she was the spiritual mother of a sultan like Bayezid II.
Salahaddin Uşşaki is an important Sufi who founded the Salahiyye branch of the Uşşakiyye branch of the Halvetiyye order. He came to Istanbul at a young age to study knowledge, continued his education and served in the state secretariat. He went to Egypt with Hekimoğlu Ali Paşa, where he served as the head of the Divan; in addition to Sufi sciences, he was also interested in secret sciences such as Cifr (Precognition) and İlm-i Evfak (Astronomy). On his return to Istanbul, he became affiliated with Sheikh Cemaleddin Uşşaki, became his son-in-law and matured on the path of Sufism with his seven-year seclusion life. He received the approval of succession from many religious orders and wrote works. He was appointed as sheikh at the dervish lodge in Fatih in 1760 and died in 1781. He left a mosque, a fountain and other charitable works in his name.
