Changes After Construction

  1. In 1946, it was decided to build a larger synagogue on the property purchased next to the small place of worship that had existed since the 1920s.

  2. With the project prepared by Deragobyan and Pardo, who won the design competition held in 1951, the 1952 Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur holidays could be celebrated there even before the synagogue was fully completed.

  3. After the heinous attack of 15 November 2003, the synagogue was reopened in January 2004 following the necessary repairs and security measures.

  4. The Talmud Torah Midrash (small synagogue) within the synagogue complex was repaired and strengthened, and it was reopened on 22 September 2011.

Featured Highlights

  • The inscription “Kal Kadoş Bet Israel” above the entrance gate of the synagogue is Deragobyan’s own composition.
