In 1933, the Ministry of Education’s Construction Office built the school under the name Eminönü 11th Primary School.
It was repaired following the earthquake in 1978.
Today, it operates as Büyük Reşitpaşa Secondary School in the main masonry building.
Prominent Features:
The school’s historical roots date back to the primary school (sıbyan mektebi) established in 1850 by Grand Vizier Mustafa Reşit Pasha.
In the late Ottoman period, it was also known as the Büyük Reşid Pasha Model School.
The building is one of eight school structures in Istanbul with the same architectural characteristics and is included within the Urban and Historical Protected Area.
Mustafa Reşit Pasha, who served six terms as Grand Vizier, is known as the statesman who promulgated the Imperial Edict of Reform (Islahat Fermanı).
