Changes After Construction
The church and monastery buildings were damaged in the 1894 Istanbul earthquake; they were repaired approximately one and a half months after the earthquake.
Featured Highlights
The church belongs to the Latin Catholic Church.
It is also known as the Saint Pasifico Church and the San Pacifico Latin Catholic Church.
It is in the Neo-Gothic style; the interior contains a wooden ceiling and various pictorial and sculptural elements.
At the entrance there is an iron gate crowned with a cross; the same symbol is used above the stained-glass windows as on the portal.
The building contains a painting associated with Pope John XXIII (Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli); Roncalli’s service in Turkey as papal representative between 1935 and 1944 historically supports this context.
