Changes After Construction
The building began serving as an educational facility on 22 March 1850.
During World War I, the building was used as a hospital.
In 1933, the complex continued its educational function under the name Istanbul Girls’ High School.
Since 1983, the institution has operated in the same building under the name Istanbul Cağaloğlu Anatolian High School.
Featured Highlights
The institution was opened in 1850 under the name “Valide Mektebi” and later used the name “Dârülmaarif.”
The building was constructed on the grounds of Esma Sultan Palace.
The rear façade features a monumental entrance with Doric columns and an inscription bearing the tughra of Sultan Abdulmecid.
The mass includes Ionic and Corinthian column arrangements along with elements of Neo-Historicist architectural style.
The building is among the first examples of modern institutions established in a European-style school plan within the Ottoman educational system.
