Changes After Construction

  1. The Sufi Lodge was founded as the âsitâne of the Cihangiriyya branch of the Khalwatiyya.

  2. The fact that the date when Sheikh Hasan Burhâneddin Efendi assumed the post is given as 1611 (Hijri 1020) in the line of sheikhs indicates that the construction of the Sufi Lodge must have been completed by that date.

  3. It is stated that the zawiya burned in 1864-1865.

  4. It is recorded that in the final period the sheikhdom passed to the Sunbuliyya branch of the Khalwatiyya, and that the last sheikh in 1925, the year when the Sufi lodges were closed, was Hafidh İhsan Efendi.

  5. It is stated that the Sufi Lodge, which is described as an âsitâne, has not survived to the present day.

  6. It is recorded that the tomb of Sheikh Hasan Burhâneddin Cihangîrî remained wooden until 1951, and that after this date it was demolished and rebuilt in concrete.

  • The Sufi Lodge is described as a settlement forming an integrated whole with the mosque known by the same name; it is stated that around the Sufi Lodge there were the Sultan’s Lodge belonging to the mosque and a primary school.

  • It is recorded that a water well dated 1894-1895, together with a shadirvan and an iron pump endowed in 1900-1901, still exists in the mosque graveyard.

  • It is stated that in the tomb of the founding sheikh there are the sarcophagi of Sheikh Hasan Burhâneddin Cihangîrî and his khalifa/son-in-law Fethullah Efendi, and that the sarcophagi bear the Khalwati crown.
