Çolak Hasan Dede held both scientific and military positions during the Ottoman period. It is understood from the title on his tombstone that he was a teacher. According to sources, he also served in the military for a period. His nickname “Çolak” comes from a physical feature.
According to the stories, Hasan Dede had a small mosque built near Sultanahmet-Little Hagia Sophia. It is understood that the place where the tomb is located was once a lodge or complex and that religious and mystical activities continued in this area.

The Tomb of Çolak Hasan Dede is considered to be one of the oldest structures in the district. The structure, built of smooth cut stones, consists of two sections:
In the right section: There is a coffin covered with a headscarf and a turban on its head, which is said to belong to Çolak Hasan Dede. There is no inscription on the gravestone.
In the left section: There is a small prayer room (hermitage) with a mihrab. This part of the tomb may have been used both as a place of worship and seclusion.
On its exterior, there is a sign that says “Hasan Dede Hazretleri Türbesi” and an Ottoman inscription. The inscription reads as follows: “The tomb of the deceased and the [hopefully] forgiven El-Hac Hasan was repaired in 1186 (1772/1773)
It is a plain looking building with iron-framed windows, a hipped roof and a small courtyard in front.
