Changes After Construction
After its first construction, the building was renovated at different periods; the second construction was carried out by the statesman Mehmed Esad Efendi in the 19th century.
It was extensively repaired in 1952, and many features were lost.
As of today, the building has been completely rebuilt.
Featured Highlights
It is also known as Aynalı Mosque.
It is a square-planned, masonry building, covered with a tiled roof on four walls, within a concrete courtyard.
The 10-step staircase in the courtyard leads to the glass-fronted entrance; this area is also the narthex.
In the entrance section, on the right side of the mosque, there is the Muezzin's Maqsurah (the name given to the space units that have special uses in religious buildings of Islamic architecture); from here, there is a staircase leading to the women's gallery.
The long windows of the second construction period, reflecting the style of the Sultan Hamid period, attract attention.
Its minabr was placed by Emetullah Kadın, the concubine of Sultan Ahmed III.
Its single-balcony minaret has a stone base, a brick body, and a lead-coated cone.
The graveyard of the mosque is located in front of the left wall and the mihrab wall; the grave of its main benefactor does not exist today, but the family grave of its second benefactor, Mehmed Esad Efendi, is located in the front part of the graveyard.
