About the Person:
  • Enver Paşa is one of the three Paşas (Talat, Cemal, Enver) who were influential in the last period of the Ottoman Empire.
  • He was one of the important actors of the 1908 Revolution of Independence and played a role in the declaration of the Second Constitutional Monarchy. He took on active duties in the Tripoli and Balkan Wars, and after the Bab-ı Ali Raid in 1913, he became the Minister of War and the head of the Ottoman army.
  • He was the main actor who ensured that the Ottoman Empire entered the war on the side of Germany in World War I. Although he is remembered for major disasters such as the Sarıkamış Operation, he made efforts to modernize the army.
  • After the war, he escaped abroad; he participated in the Turkestan independence struggle in Russia and Central Asia, and lost his life while fighting with Bolshevik forces in Tajikistan in 1922.
