Over time, the mosque has undergone various repairs and restorations, and its original structural features have largely been lost.
The building, which was in ruins until 1939, was repaired by Azakzade Hacı Tevfik Bey and brought to its current state.
- Prominent features
The mosque is built of brick and wood with a roof covered with traditional tiles.
Its minbar was placed by the statesman Arnavut Osman Efendi.
The mosque is known as the “Esir Kemal Mosque” by taking its name from the well of the same name nearby and by corrupting the word “Esirci” among the public.
It is sometimes referred to as the Azak Mosque because there is an inn belonging to the well-known Azakzade family in its vicinity.
The stone minaret has a single balcony and is striking in its harmony with the other classical features of the mosque.
