About the Person:
  • Evrenos Dede was one of the veteran dervishes who came from Anatolia for the conquest of Istanbul. In some sources, his name is also mentioned as “Evrenoszâde”.
  • He is a Sufi who followed the spiritual path of the Khorasan saints and took part in the conquest movements. There are records that he was in the Melami Sufi line along with his Gazi identity. The year 1495 is accepted as his death date.
  • In the 19th century, Futacı Şeyh Seyyid Halil Aşki Efendi was appointed as the sheikh of the tomb, and for this reason, the tomb also acquired the identity of a dervish lodge for a period.

Prominent Features:

  • The tomb was built on an embankment relative to the road.
  • It is a plain building with arched windows, painted blue on the exterior.
  • It is in the form of a cemetery with an open top and surrounded by a low wall.
  • There are three coffins inside: It is the grave on the left. The headstone is decorated with Tabrizi coins, and the footstone has the inscription “Fatiha – Evrenos Dede – For His Soul”. The middle one is the grave. The phrase “Imam-ı Sultanü’s-selâtîn” is written on the footstone. There is a prayer on the pehle stone: “Whoever prays at my grave may pass through the world at night with faith and the Quran” The one on the right is the grave. The headstone should have the Kelime-I Tevhid (There is no god but Allah, Muhammad is His mesenger) carved on it. On the pehle stone: “As my grave approaches, / May the one who remembers it with goodness / bestow a favor – pray for me with kindness.”
