Highlights
Abbas Şükrî Efendi, who must have been born in 1808 according to his age at death, was one of the late Ottoman scholars from Trabzon.
He was among the dersiâms of Fatih Mosque and became one of the teachers who trained students and granted ijazahs there. Sources state that he granted ijazahs three times.
Abbas Şükrî Efendi also served as mukarrir of Buhârî-i Şerif. The mukarrirship of Buhârî-i Şerif was a respected duty in hadith circles for teachers who taught and explained Sahîh al-Bukhârî.
He took part in the Huzur Dersleri as a muhatap for 14 years. The Huzur Dersleri were Qur’anic commentary lessons held before the sultan during Ramadan; in these sessions, the mukarrir delivered the lesson while the muhataps participated in scholarly discussion.
In 1315 he was honored with the rank of Mûsılâ-i Sahn. Mûsılâ-i Sahn was a high scholarly degree within the Ottoman ilmiye ranks, approaching the level of the Sahn madrasas.
Trabzonî el-Hac Abbas Şükrî Efendi died on 10 Muharram 1321 (8 April 1903), at the age of 95, and was buried in the Fatih Mosque Cemetery.

O Forgiver of sins! My Lord, grant me forgiveness and pardon me. For the sake of the Supreme Throne and the light of the Qur’an, let my brothers who visit my grave offer a Fatiha to my soul.
