Born in 1807, Ahmed Avni Efendi belonged to the well-established Muhsinzâde family, known in Ottoman history through Abdullah Paşa, who rose to the grand vizierate, and his son Mehmed Paşa.
Ahmed Avni Efendi served as a member of the Dersaadet Commercial Court of Appeal. This court was the higher authority for cases coming from the commercial courts in Istanbul and was one of the important institutions in the modern Ottoman judicial organization dealing with disputes concerning trade, debt, companies and similar matters.
Muhsinzâde es-Seyyid Ahmed Avni Efendi, whose inscription states that he was ninety years old, died on 5 Dhu al-Hijja 1314 (7 May 1897) and was buried in the Fatih Mosque Cemetery.
