Highlights

  • Ahmed Efendi, born around 1871, belonged to the Çürüksulu Bacınzâde family, one of the notable families of Ordu. The nisba “Çürüksulu” on his gravestone points to the family’s connection with the Çürüksu-Batum region at the eastern end of the Black Sea. In sources, the family name appears in different spellings such as Baçınzâde, Bacınzâde and Baçinzâde.

  • In the early twentieth century, Ahmed Efendi served within the municipal organization of Ordu. Studies based on the Trabzon provincial yearbooks record him in 1903 and 1904 as the only Muslim member among seven non-Muslim members.

  • He died on 24 Teşrinisani 1330, corresponding to 7 December 1914, and was buried in the Fatih Mosque Cemetery.

He is the Creator, the Eternal. He lived an enviable life and was among the best of people; he wished to spend his comfort and ease in being useful to the helpless. This was always the sign of his fame. I am certain that those who knew him will not forget. For the love of Your beloved, have mercy, O Allah! Accept our prayer from beginning to end.
