Ahmed Şâkir Efendi was born in Ergiri in 1851 and was one of the judges trained within the Ottoman learned and judicial establishment. Ergiri is a historical Rumelian town located within the borders of today’s Albania.
Ahmed Şâkir Efendi served for a time as a müsevvid in the Fetvâhâne-i Âlî. The Fetvâhâne was the central office within the Şeyhülislam’s authority that handled fatwa procedures; müsevvids were qualified members of the learned establishment who worked on the writing and drafting of fatwas and sharia documents.
Ahmed Şâkir Efendi later rose to the judgeship of the Province of the Cezâir-i Bahr-i Sefîd, the Aegean Islands. Centred on Rhodes, this Ottoman province included Lesbos, Chios, Lemnos and surrounding islands. This office represented a high judicial post within the sharia-legal order of the Aegean islands.
Known for moral integrity, asceticism and piety, Ahmed Şâkir Efendi died on 24 July 1333, corresponding to 6 August 1917, and was buried in the Fatih Mosque Cemetery.

"All that is upon the earth shall perish." (Rahman 26) This is the grave of Ergirili Ahmed Şâkir Efendi, one of the leading judges, former drafting clerk of the Fetvahane, retired from the judgeship of the Province of the Mediterranean Islands, a scholar and man of piety, a grave that brings him nearer to mercy. May Allah illuminate his grave with light. Date of birth: 1851 / Date of death: 24 July 1917.
Hû. O visitor, the virtuous person whom we have entrusted here to the soil of Allah’s mercy was renowned for firm morals and piety, always protected the legal judgments and dignity of the sacred law, and never departed from righteousness. May Almighty Allah have mercy on him.
