Ahmed Şetvan Efendi, whose date of birth is unknown, belonged to the notable families of Benghazi and to the Şetvanzade family. He was known as a Qur’anic commentator, hadith scholar and poet.
Ahmed Şetvan Efendi’s son Yusuf Şetvan Bey was born in Istanbul in 1868. During the Italian occupation of Tripoli and the First World War, he was active within Teşkilât-ı Mahsusa and served as a deputy in the Ottoman Chamber of Deputies.
Yusuf Şetvan Bey married Kamile Şerife Hanım, the daughter of Seyyid Cevad Efendi, one of the great Berzencî sheikhs who is also buried in this cemetery.
Ahmed Şetvan Efendi died in 1299 (1881) and was buried in the Fatih Mosque Cemetery.
