Ayşe Şerife Hanım

Ayşe Şerife Hanım, whose date of birth has not been identified, was the wife of Seyyid Cevad Efendi, a member of the Berzencî sayyid family known in Iraq and the Kurdish lands. The Berzencîs are one of the rooted sayyid families believed to descend from Husayn, the grandson of the Prophet, and are known especially for their religious and social influence around Sulaymaniyah, Mosul and Kirkuk.

Ayşe Şerife Hanım’s husband Seyyid Cevad Efendi is also buried in the Fatih Mosque Cemetery. This family line continues in the cemetery not only through Seyyid Cevad Efendi and Ayşe Şerife Hanım, but also through their daughter Kamile Şerife Hanım. Kamile Şerife Hanım married Bingazili Yusuf Şetvan Bey, known for his activities connected with the Teşkilât-ı Mahsusa during the Tripolitanian War and the First World War. All four members of this family circle are buried in the Fatih Mosque Cemetery.

Ayşe Şerife Hanım died in 1336 in the Hijri calendar, corresponding to 1918, and was buried in the Fatih Mosque Cemetery.
