Edhem Paşa

Hâfız Edhem Paşa, whose date of birth has not been identified, was one of the military figures who served as commander of the Ninth Nizamiye Liva attached to the Ottoman Third Army. Nizamiye referred to the regular forces of the Ottoman land army, while liva was a military unit level below a division and above a regiment.

The Third Army to which Edhem Paşa belonged was one of the most important armies of the late Ottoman military organization, especially in relation to the Balkans. Centred in Manastır, it was responsible for a wide area including the provinces of Salonica, Manastır, Kosovo, Ioannina and Shkodra, the Sanjak of Serfiçe, and also the province of Aydın.

Hâfız Edhem Paşa died on Friday, 27 Kânunusani 1327, corresponding to 9 February 1912, and was buried in the Fatih Mosque Cemetery.
