  • Emine Penbe Hanım was the mother of Cemal Paşa, one of the high-ranking military and bureaucratic figures of the late Ottoman period. Through her son, she belonged to a family circle closely connected with the military administration of the state.

  • Cemal Paşa served in the central military bureaucracy during the reign of Sultan Abdülhamid II. He worked in and around the Bâb-ı Seraskerî, the Ottoman Ministry of War, and rose to posts such as head of the Infantry Department. He was also appointed Sadaret Seryaveri, an office that required him to monitor and report the movements and contacts of grand viziers.

  • Cemal Paşa eventually reached the rank of first ferik, a high general rank in the Ottoman army. Emine Penbe Hanım’s grave therefore also reflects the family memory of a late Ottoman military-bureaucratic household.

  • Emine Penbe Hanım died in 1324 in the Hijri calendar, corresponding to 1906, and was buried in the Fatih Mosque Cemetery.
