Emine Terane-dil Hanım, whose date of birth is unknown, was the wife of Mehmed Rıfat Paşa, who gained fame in the Crimean War through the defense of Silistre.
After the fortress commander Musa Paşa was martyred, Mehmed Rıfat Paşa took over the command. This defense later became one of the historical events that inspired Namık Kemal’s play Vatan yahut Silistre.
After his success at Silistre, Mehmed Rıfat Paşa held posts such as president of the Şûrâ-yı Asker, governor of Ioannina and commander of the Rumelian Army. He died in Pristina while serving as commander of Niš and was buried in the courtyard of the Sultan Murad Hüdâvendigâr Tomb in Kosovo.
His wife Emine Terane-dil Hanım died on Monday, 8 Jumada al-Akhir 1321 (31 August 1903), and was buried in the Fatih Mosque Cemetery.
