  • Fatma Memduhe Hanım was the granddaughter of Hâce İshak Efendi of Harput and the daughter of Mehmed Cemaleddin Efendi, president of the Council for the Administration of Orphans’ Property. Hâce İshak Efendi taught at Fatih Mosque and was one of the famous scholars of Harput known for his religious works and refutations.

  • The Meclis-i İdâre-i Emvâl-i Eytâm, headed by her father Mehmed Cemaleddin Efendi, was a council established within the Şeyhülislam’s office concerned with the property of orphans and the supervision of orphan funds.

  • Known for her recitation of the Qur’an, her worship and her good character, Fatma Memduhe Hanım died on 7 Rabi al-Akhir 1326 (8 May 1908), when she was still an 18-year-old young woman, and was buried in the Fatih Mosque Cemetery.

Epitaph

A Fatiha for the soul of Fatma Memduhe Hanım, daughter of His Excellency Mehmed Cemaleddin Efendi, president of the council administering the property of orphans and grandson of the renowned master Harputlu İshak Efendi. She had just reached the age of eighteen, spent her whole life reciting the Qur’an and in worship, and was an example of intelligence and good character. 9 May 1908.
