Epitaph
Yâ Hû. Everything is mortal; Allah is the Living and Everlasting. The proof "Everything shall perish" (Kasas 88) pointed to this. Thus the pure-natured wife of Cevdet Bey left the world and chose the Paradise of Adn as her dwelling. By the wind of death she fell into the lap of the earth. Her separation opened fresh wounds in the heart. Surely the heart was wounded by longing for her. May Allah always give her soul to drink from Kawthar. May He make her grave a rose garden of Paradise. I wrote the date of death as a jeweled chronogram with the letter b of Bismillah: "O heart, Ferdâne Hanım made Paradise her refuge." A Fatiha for the soul of Ferdâne Hanım, daughter of Naşid Bey of the Siroz notables and wife of Cevdet Bey of the Drama notables. Year 1909.
