Hacı Hafız Mustafa Efendi

Hacı Hâfız Mustafa Efendi, whose date of birth has not been identified, was one of the religious officials of Bursa origin. He served in Istanbul as chief imam of Fatih Mosque, and through this office became one of the leading teachers within the mosque’s daily worship order and religious services.

The chief imamate of Fatih Mosque was not limited to leading prayers. Since the mosque, together with its madrasa and cemetery, was one of Istanbul’s most important centres of learning and religion, this post was a distinguished position in both worship life and the eyes of the congregation.

Hacı Hâfız Mustafa Efendi died on Thursday, 23 March 1916, and was buried in the cemetery of Fatih Mosque, where he had served for many years.
