İsmail Nejat Rüştü Zorlu

İsmail Nejat Rüştü Zorlu was born in 1906 as the son of İbrahim Rüştü Paşa, one of the mirlivas of the Abdülhamid II period, and Hatice Güzide Rüştü Zorlu. The Zorlu family stands out as a family connected with both the late Ottoman military circle and the diplomatic and political history of the Republican period.

İsmail Nejat Rüştü Zorlu was the elder brother of Fatin Rüştü Zorlu, one of the diplomats and politicians of the Republican period. After Galatasaray High School, Fatin Rüştü Zorlu studied law and political sciences in Europe; after various posts in the Foreign Ministry, he served as Minister of Foreign Affairs during the Democrat Party period and was executed after the coup of 27 May.

In family memory, the early loss of İsmail Nejat is among the early sorrows of the Zorlu family. Among Fatin Rüştü Zorlu’s siblings, the names İsmail, Efdal, Nejat and Rıfkı are mentioned. The deaths of İsmail, Efdal and Nejat at young ages left deep traces in the childhood and youth memory of the family.

İsmail Nejat Rüştü Zorlu died in 1923 at the age of only seventeen and was buried in the Fatih Mosque Cemetery.
