Mehmed Şefik Bey, whose date of birth has not been identified, was an Ottoman judicial official belonging to the Atabeg dynasty of Georgia. The Atabeg family was a rooted lineage historically associated with Ahıska and its surroundings and, in the Ottoman period, with the old local dynasty of the Çıldır province region.
Mehmed Şefik Bey rose to membership in the Court of Cassation. In the Ottoman judicial system that took shape after the Tanzimat, the Court of Cassation was the institution corresponding to today’s Supreme Court.
Known for his learning and moral virtues, Mehmed Şefik Bey died in Dıraç while serving on an inspection mission. Dıraç, today Durrës in Albania, was an important port and administrative centre on the Adriatic coast during the Ottoman period.
Mehmed Şefik Bey died on 26 Kânunusani 1326, corresponding to 8 February 1911, and was buried in the Fatih Mosque Cemetery.
