Mehmed Said Efendi

Alaşehirli el-Hac Mehmed Sa‘îd Efendi, whose date of birth could not be determined, was one of the teachers authorized to teach at Fatih Mosque, that is, a dersiâm.

Mehmed Sa‘îd Efendi, counted among the hamele-i Kur’an, a group used for Qur’an memorizers and scholars engaged with Qur’anic learning, is described on his gravestone with the expression from Sūrat al-Mā’ida meaning “those who do not fear the blame of any blamer.”

Mehmed Sa‘îd Efendi also served among military religious officials and was one of the retired regimental muftis. Regimental muftis were among the officials who met the needs of military units for religious guidance and fatwas in the Ottoman army.

Alaşehirli el-Hac Mehmed Sa‘îd Efendi died in March 1322 in the Rumi calendar (1906) and was buried in the Fatih Mosque Cemetery.
