Mustafa Şükri Efendi, whose exact date of birth is unknown, was a descendant of Derûnî Ali Uşşâkî, who lived in the 18th century, and was one of the senior officials who served for many years in the Ottoman finance organization.
His ancestor Derûnî Ali Uşşâkî taught as a madrasa professor at the Câmi-i Kebîr Madrasa in Uşak. He used the pen name “Derûnî” in his poems and was a scholar and poet who wrote works in fields such as mathematics, astronomy, Islamic law and Sufism.
Mustafa Şükri Efendi died on the Gurra-i Rajab 1310 (19 January 1893) and was buried in the Fatih Mosque Cemetery.
