Nasuh Efendi

Hafız Nasuh Efendi, whose date of birth is unknown, appears in sources as Uşaklı Nasuh Efendi.

Nasuh Efendi, one of the distinguished dersiâms of Fatih Mosque, is also seen in the records of the Huzur Dersleri. He first appears among the muhataps in the Huzur Dersleri, while later records mention him as a mukarrir.

The Huzur Dersleri were Qur’anic commentary lessons held before the sultan during Ramadan. In these sessions, scholars called mukarrirs delivered the lesson, while muhataps participated in the scholarly discussion.

The family line continued in later generations within scholarly and intellectual circles. His son Nasuh Efendizâde Mustafa Âsım Efendi gave lessons at Fatih Mosque and held posts such as teacher of kalām at the Mekteb-i Mülkiye, Istanbul deputy, member of the Chamber of Notables and mukarrir in the Huzur Dersleri.

Hafız Nasuh Efendi died on 13 Jumada al-Awwal 1308 (25 December 1890) and was buried in the Fatih Mosque Cemetery.
